Jonathan Morgan, Regional Chairman at Archial, said, "I am delighted with this recognition of our design for Berkshire College of Agriculture and am particularly pleased with the comment from the awards judges that we have succeeded in delivering to our clients an 'inspirational building' that will directly benefit both students and staff.
"As the member organisation representing local authority building control departments in England and Wales, LABC promotes the design and construction of safe, accessible, environmentally efficient buildings that comply with Building Regulations and, as such, to win this award for best educational building in the Central region is a tremendous achievement."
A regional college for land based education and training, BCA is built around Hall Place, a Grade 1 listed Mansion House, and set in landscaped parkland, providing students and staff with an attractive learning environment on a 400 acre campus.
Mr Morgan said, "BCA's Science Building has been designed as an exemplar sustainable teaching facility in line with the College's brief to provide horticultural and science teaching laboratories, as well as flexible general teaching classrooms. The design concept responds appropriately to the site's context as an integral part of the open landscape, blending into its rural location and respecting the adjacent Grade 1 listed Hall Place."
Phase 2 of the College's estates improvement programme involved the replacement of several dated buildings with four new high quality teaching facilities: the Science Building; the Skills Centre; the Animal Unit Building and the General Teaching Building.
Archial's design for BCA has now been shortlisted in the Best Educational Building category of the LABC National Building Excellence Awards 2010.
